FNSU supports European wide financial transaction tax

Nyhet | Publicerad 2011-09-30

Nordic and Baltic social democratic youth and students' organization FNSU
demands introduction of an international financial transaction tax, which
is to regulate the financial markets. The final goal must be a global
financial transaction tax. Financial transaction tax has been debated over
for a long time. Therefore FNSU is delighted by the European Commission's
proposal of introduction of financial transaction tax in the EU-zone. Now
it is a time to make it a reality.

The tax payers must not be the only ones carrying the cost of the
financial and economic crises. Also the financial sector must carry a
responsibility of the development of the global economy. Separation of
real and financial economies cannot be allowed.

FNSU believes that financial transaction tax would force investors to
consider their actions more carefully than previously. The introduction is
necessary in order to regulate the markets. The tax needs to be set in a
level that it is efficient in this task. FNSU believes the tax should be
set at minimum at 0,05%. We also believe that the income generated by the
tax should be used to cover the costs of the financial crises, as well as
directed at public investments and increasing social justice within our
societies.
